Eating chicken

As a child belonging to a vegetarian family I never tasted either chicken or mutton. My father used to take non-vegetarian when he visits restaurants. Non vegetarian food was never cooked in our house. In my childhood days when the doctor advised me to take eggs, I hated it for its bad odor and its tastelessness. My dad used to come to my school to give me a boiled egg which he purchased from a non-vegetarian hotel. Sometimes he used to get me an omelet. I found the omelet tasty. I also ate the boiled egg since pepper and salt were added to it after it was cut. I have seen several times when my dad break open the egg and poured the liquid inside it directly to his mouth. I never tried taking raw egg like him.

Other than egg I haven’t tasted any non vegetarian food. Milk which I consume everyday is considered to be purely vegetarian. Infact when I asked my mother why we don’t accept milk as non-vegetarian food, while the west treats milk as non-vegetarian, she said cow’s body is considered to be a place where all Hindu gods reside. Cow’s milk is pure and part of its blood is converted to milk. Also cow feeds only on grass and other greens which itself is a vegetarian. Also milk is so much pure that it is even used to clean the idols of Hindu gods. From my own experience I found milk to be a great food for a person of any age though it should never be taken in excess.

As kids we had a liking for the top ramen noodles (vegetarian) masala. We used to get the instant noodles when there is no cooking on that particular day. The top ramen pack that we got on that day was chicken and nobody noticed it. I used to cook the noodles (2 minute noodles) myself. But due to my laziness I asked my mother to cook it on that day. She did prepare and placed it near me and went. I started eating it and found it different in taste. I first thought it was old stock. It tasted as though coconut oil was added to it. I asked my mom if she had used an uncleaned vessel. She said the vessel was clean before the cooking. Then somehow I wanted to check the cover of the top ramen noodles. At that time I had already finished half of the plate. To my surprise I found it was top ramen chicken noodles. I dropped the left out noodles in the dust bin. I just couldn’t digest that I have eaten chicken noodle.

I tried to vomit but couldn’t get anything out. I felt live chickens crying in my stomach literally. I couldn’t sleep that night. I don’t know if I will be vegetarian in the future too but would certainly love to remain a vegetarian always.
