Use Audacity to record online music

Suppose you watch a nice music video online (Youtube). Now you want to download the music track so that you can listen to it repeatedly. Many people listen to music online through sites such as dishant.com, musicindiaonline.com etc. but it is not suitable for people with limited internet bandwidth.

Using Audacity it is easy to record sound be it your own voice through a mike or any sound from your system speaker or headphone directly. First you need to have Audacity (free software) with lame MP3 Encoder. Open Audacity and you will see a drop down menu. You need to select “Stereo Mix” for recording sound from system. To record your own voice, use the option Microphone.

Now after selecting Stereo Mix open the Video page or any music site. Click the record button in Audacity and then play the music/video. The audio will be automatically recorded. Stop the recording after the song gets over using the stop button. Immediately you can listen to the recorded portion and use the following method to save the mp3 file.

File >> Export as Mp3

While saving always select the ID3v1 (more compatible) format. This will make the file more compatible with windows media player and other music players. Then the music file can be heard anytime.
