Microsoft checks piracy for Vista
Installing Microsoft Vista, the latest operating system is not going to be easy for the Indian masses. Until now (most) assembled pc users got the windows XP CD’s from local software vendors. The windows XP CD was available for just Rs. 300 or so. People use to install Windows XP and disable the automatic updating service. An activation key will most probably be in the CD or will be given by the vendor. When you pay the vendor and receive the CD you get a working Operating System for your Computer.
The next version of Windows, Vista will require online validation for continued usage. Though some time will be given after the OS is installed all the applications will be disabled except the browser if you do not validate Vista online. The browser will work for activating Windows Vista online.
Online validation is the most secure process and it is not easy to pass this unless otherwise your system has genuine windows (not a pirated version). Microsoft has taken this step to curb the piracy of its software products. There are two options for the user who cannot afford to get a original Microsoft Windows Vista (a)Either switch to any of the free Linux distributions or (b)Stay with the older versions of MS Operating Systems.
