Multi-Input Touch Screen

Nothing amazes like science and technology. Be it the way search engines crawl the web or the recent face recognition technology of Riya. Let’s face it; technology is taking us slowly to another era. The future generations will use more of the technology and would reap the fruits of today’s scientists and technologists.

New York based research scientist, Jeff Han has come up with a new concept called multi-input touch screen. Well, touch screen was there previously too. You might have seen them in some of the ATM’s. So what’s so special about the Multi input touch screen? Here is the answer. What we use in our ATM machines can accept only a single touch at a time. The Multi input touch screen accepts multiple inputs at a time. For example you may use all ten of your fingers at a time to interact with the computer.

Jeff Han in this video says Multi touch screen isn’t completely new but what’s special about this new technology is it is available for high resolution with low cost and scalability. The touch sensor is also pressure sensitive. One of the understandable advantages of using this Multi-input touch screen is that it is more interactive with no prior technical knowledge necessary to use it. We can zoom and rotate photos with two fingers just like a 3d film. Simply say, anything that we do with a keyboard and a mouse could be done with no interface other than multi touch sensor screen.

Apple has patented this technology and we may start using it in the future.

This is a video of a multi-input touch screen that hopefully will make its way into consumer computer market in time. A standard touch screen allows one input at a time. This allows multiple people to use it and allows for Minority Report like features. Super Cool …
