Download Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 2

mozilla_firefox_imageFirefox 1.5 Release candidate 2 has been released recently. Firefox 1.5 has a few surprises in store for the regular firefox user. The most important is the speed in which websites are rendered. You can’t compare the speed with the previous versions. You could see the improvement in speed for yourself while using Firefox 1.5.

Clearing private personal data has been made so simple. Just pressing “ctrl+shift+del” will delete browsing history, passwords, download history, cookies and cache. There is no need to use the mouse to delete the private data. Alternatively you can also save the options so that the entire browsing history is deleted automatically when the browser window is closed.

Browser tabs can be rearranged from left to right using drag and drop. RSS / Live Bookmark orange button stays at right extreme of the location bar now. Answers.com has been added to list of search engines from within the firefox toolbar. Menu options have been redesigned for better usability.

A simple wizard to report sites that are not working in firefox has been added in the help menu. Firefox 1.5 will feature improved support for web standards including CSS2, CSS3, DHTML, JavaScript 1.6 etc.

Some more features of Firefox RC2 as stated from the Mozilla website are

  • Automated update - updates to Firefox may now be half a megabyte or smaller
  • Improvements to popup blocking
  • Better accessibility - support for DHTML and Window-Eyes 5.5 beta screen reader
  • Better support for Mac OS X - (10.2 and greater) including profile migration from Safari and Mac Internet Explorer.
  • Many security enhancements and a list of notable bug fixes.

Since it is a pre release version a few extensions may not work. The Google toolbar for Firefox, extensions such as Flashgot and Colorzilla work well in Firefox RC2.

Firefox 1.5 RC2 is the second release candidate of Mozilla’s next generation firefox browser which will be released later this year. The present version has been made available to developers for testing purposes only. If you are comfortable in using firefox then go ahead and download the Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 2.
