Credit cards are becoming part of online life as we use it for our day to day purposes i.e. to buy something online, to check the balance, bill payments etc. Credit cards make life simpler. But due to the increased hacking activities, online usage of credit cards have also become risky nowadays. Hence a basic knowledge of using credit cards online is most important. Some of these points may be helpful in this regard.

1. Open the browser (firefox). Go to

Tools >> Options >> Clear All >> Ok

2. Now visit your credit card or banking site, login and do your transaction etc.

3. After you logout of online banking site. Do this again

Tools >> Options >> Clear All >> Ok

4. Close this window immediately.

5. Open a new window to continue surfing other sites.

6. While you are using your credit card online do not browse other sites simultaneously.

7. Don’t save your Credit card number / login / password in your computer.

8. Never click on an email link which asks your credit card / bank account number / password etc. Your bank will never ask you these details through email. If you receive an email asking for your credit card number, personal details etc. from an unknown sender (fraudulent emails) then you should report it to your bank immediately.

9. Most of the banks issue a separate card specifically made for online usage. Use that card for all online transactions.

10. If you are using internet explorer do this before you login and after you logout of your banking site.

Tools >> Internet Options >>

Delete cookies >> Ok

Delete Files >> Select “Delete all offline content” >> Ok

Clear History >> Yes

>>Ok

11. Disclose your credit card number only to encrypted / secured sites. Usually these sites will show you a lock image either in the taskbar or in the address bar.

12. Always use your home pc to shop online. Never use your credit card in a Browsing Café for shopping.

13. It is a good idea to check your credit balance immediately after you order something on the internet.
