Disable dialer noise from modem
If you have a dial up connection, and if your modem produces a lot of noise while dialling, here is the solution. Go to
Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options -> Click the “Modems” tab -> Click “Properties” -> Click “Advanced” tab -> Under “Extra Settings” there will be “Extra Initialization commands:” -> type ATM0 -> Click Ok -> Click Ok again -> Try Restarting the computer.
Note that it is ATM followed by 0(zero). This will diable the sound coming out of the modem while dialing.
The steps given above applies to Windows XP. For other windows versions the steps may not be the same, but will be close enough for you to figure it out.
