The Kashmir Issue

Of late, Musharraf visited India to watch the cricket match and to have talks with the Indian delegates. His statement during the visit contradicts his previous statements.

“Any movement on cultural relations is putting the cart before the horse”

-Musharraf June 21, 2004

“The Srinagar Bus Service is the first step towards a soft border. I am in favor of it”

-Musharraf April 14, 2005

First of all Musharraf is not an elected representative. He is a dictator who took the power for himself after sending the major Pakistani Political chiefs to exile. Why can’t he restore democracy in Pakistan first, rather than talking about Kashmir?

Kashmir was allocated to India during the partition. But Pakistan has occupied most places in Kashmir which is now known as POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir). Pakistani people say that the terrorism in Kashmir is a freedom struggle. This is totally wrong.

Pakistan is hiring the unemployed Kashmir youth with lots of money and weapons (probably imported from the United States) and using terrorism as a means to achieve their aims. Pakistan’s only aim is that they want Kashmir to be separated from India. But why? Why only Kashmir? The Indian subcontinent has a lot of Muslim population spread equally throughout the country. Though Kashmir has a maximum population of Muslims, is it the only Muslim state? Even Mumbai and Delhi has a lot of Muslims. Then what is so special about Kashmir.

Kashmir is a beautiful place full of tourism potential. The natural beauty of the Kashmir valley is famous throughout the world. That is why Pakistanis want Kashmir separated from India. And Kashmir is very close to Islamabad. Pakistan can very easily acquire Kashmir if it is separated from India.

Pakistan is more interested in investing money for arms and ammunitions, bombs etc., rather than its own economic development. On one side, there is India with Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikhs and many more religions though unique in their own ways coexist with peace and brotherhood (leaving the political interference) while Pakistan, a fully military ruled country with no consideration for democracy and secularism.

Indian Government must first of all stop chatting and having nice time with Musharraf and think about how to protect the borders of India especially Kashmir.

Purely Indian government must be blamed for not looking after these issues properly. If Indian government is potential enough to save Kashmir, then why it kept mum when Pakistan took away majority of Kashmir. Manmohan Singh, Vajpayee etc., are not considering Kashmir a big issue. They always want to maintain a friendly relationship with Musharraf fearing he would kill them. Already three fourths of Kashmir has been acquired by Pakistan. Still why Indian government wants to be friendly with Pakistan?
