Your account of nandhanAr while generally true is misleading in some respects. The nandhi episode did not take place in Cidambaram. It was in TiruppunkUr. nandhanAr was not a slave to anybody. That story was woven by Gopalakrishna Bharathi. SEkkizhar describes him as a low-caste person only. It was nandan's own agony which prevented him from going to Cidambaram. Nandhanar was asked to enter a fire (to get rid of his low birth and then enter the sanctum of Cidambraram temple by the Lord who also told the dikshitars of Cidambaram to accept him.
