Kashmir Visit
Kashmir is the most beautiful place I have even seen in my life time. I went to Kashmir in the month of February. It was winter season.
The journey time from Jammu to Srinagar(Kashmir) will be approximately 10 hours by bus. By air it takes 10 minutes. Kashmir is a complete muslim state. Most of the people are muslims. People speak urdu here. The people of Kashmir are kind and brave at heart. The women are beautiful.
Dhal Lake - Dhal lake is the most beautiful lake in India. In Dhal lake itself, we can see so many shops which sell bangles, jewellery, clothes and many more. The water in Dhal lake is not contaminated. The lake will not be contaminated even in the future because the water comes directly from the snow mountain.
House Boat - House Boats attracts lots of tourists. Food is provided in the house boat itself. House boats are luxurious and comfortable. A word of caution, many westerners have been abducted and kidnapped only because they stayed in isolated house boats.
Shankaracharya Temple - Adi Shankara who travelled throughout India has built a temple for Lord Shiva in Kashmir. The temple is called Shankaracharya Mandir. Hindus cannot miss this. It is a hill temple.
Gulmarg - The most beautiful hill top in Kashmir. If you go in peak winter you wont be able to reach Gulmarg due to thick snow. Tangmarg is also very beautiful.
Gardens - There are many gardens in Srinagar full of beautiful flowers. One of them is Mugal gardens which is very famous in kashmir.
Food - Food is mostly non-vegeterian and very few hotels provide pure vegeterian food. Indian Rotis are commonly available with subji. Biryani is also available. There is one krishna Dhabha which provides pure vegetarian dishes which tastes really good.
Recommendations - Winter clothing is a must for visiting Kashmir. Please have a pair of shoes, as you may witness snowfall anytime. Do not go isolated anywhere since the terrorists are in search of english people, to kidnap them and claim money.
When we went to srinagar, we hardly found tourists from India. Most of them were foreigners. This is because all the Indians were scared to go to kashmir. I am unaware of the situation existing right now. Kashmir is also called the “switzerland of India”. Due to terrorism, most of the people who owned luxurious hotels and restaurents have evacuated. So you cannot expect a comfortable stay in kashmir.
